raptors
In addition to owls and Kestrels in nestboxes we also ring at least one
brood of Short-eared Owls annually as well as several nests of
Buzzards, Sparrowhawks and Merlins. After their succesful reintroduction we now
have a small but increasing population of Red Kites breeding in the area.
To assist in these operations we have a small team of skilled climbers to whom we are indebited.
As well as raptor and owl pulli we utilise a large spring trap which is
suitable for large raptors and will hopefully be using a large
chardonerret trap to catch adult Long-eared Owls on the breeding
grounds.
All nest monitoring and ringing is done under a schedule one licence.
